Indie Füde Deli - Ormeau

232 Ormeau Rd Belfast BT7 2FZ

Indie Füde is a newcomer to Ormeau but has been the foodie’s destination of choice for quite a few years in Comber. Laura Anne Bradley from Indie Füde told us a bit more about the business.

“Indie Füde was established in 2015, and opened as a pop up shop in Johnny's hometown of Comber.  Indie Füde is a deli, but not like any other… Our name originates from our two main philosophies: indigenous and independent. We sell only small batch artisan products from the beautiful and bountiful island of Ireland – all 700 of them and counting! We are simply passionate about local food and producers and the stories behind them.”

When you visit Indie Füde, this is apparent, with a plethora of cheeses, charcuterie, preserves, drinks and chocolates on offer.  Moving to the neighbourhood, Indie Füde have quickly become part of the local community.

“We love being part of a local community, and now have a permanent store on the high street in Comber - and one on the Ormeau Road in Belfast. Both of which are full of charm, and character - and accompanied by a number of vibrant local businesses.  Our Ormeau Road store is a pared back version of our HQ in Comber - designed to showcase our fabulous range of Irish cheese and charcuterie. Alongside a cracking coffee and hot food offering, and some tempting store cupboard treats!

We are always shouting about our incredible produce - as our dedication to stocking produce that's exclusively from the island of Ireland is pretty special!  Our staff are an incredible asset - offering a friendly and knowledgeable service and you'll never be short of inspiration after a visit to Indie Füde!”

Like many independent businesses, Indie Füde is multi-faceted, going beyond retailing produce.

“We love to do things differently, in all aspects of our business. From eco-friendly packaging, bold designs and bespoke gift ideas, we are always trying to surprise and innovate.  Our fabulous range of cookery demos, tastings and supper clubs are particularly special - bringing people together and introducing them to new tastes and flavours!”

As My Block is all about neighbourhoods, we asked Laura what she loved about her two neighbourhoods in Belfast and Comber:

“Both of our neighbourhoods are currently flourishing. We love the supportive vibes - from both customers and the other indie businesses around us. Collaboration is a huge part of our business, and something we will always be keen to do. More of the same please!

On the Ormeau Road we are lucky to have Memento right next door - with a glorious selection of stunning floral beauty. And The Vineyard right across the road, full to the brim with local indie beers, gins, whiskey and the likes. Perfect for pairing with a cheeseboard!  Comber is part of the stunning Ards Peninsula which is home to many brilliant indie businesses. One of our particular favourites is The Echlinville Distillery in Kircubbin, but we visit many great local indies on our Strangford Lough Food Tour!”
